FaceTime bug allows callers to hear audio before you answer

A recently discovered FaceTime bug allows anyone to FaceTime call another person and immediately hear audio from their phone, but it happens BEFORE the other person answers or rejects the call.

A software update is now available to fix this going forward. To update your phone’s software, go to Settings > General > Software Update, and download and install the update from there.

Here’s what was happening: (1) a person makes a FaceTime call, (2) while ringing, they choose to add a third person to the call and enter their own phone number, and (3) the audio from the not-yet-answered user is connected.

In a statement, Apple said, “We sincerely apologize to our customers who were affected and all who were concerned about this security issue.”
